The area was reclaimed in
the Middle Ages by monks who turned into arable land a territory
which was already endowed with abundant water and rich soil. For
centuries the fields served as meadows and water meadows providing
excellent fodder for livestock, mainly milk cows and meat oxen.
In recent years following changes in the ownership of the property
the meadows were replaced by cereal cultivation while livestock
rearing was abandoned. The present management started up in November
1999 and cultivation has since followed the rules of organic agriculture
and permaculture to
restore a situation of equilibrium in the fields and in the environment
by increasing organic matter and natural elements that promote
biodiversity, while using natural resources for peopleÕs needs.
